NI Championships Masters Award 2013

NIKA Logo-Master Award

The NIKA Committee has the pleasure in announcing an exciting prize package for the 2013 NI Kart Championship (non-gearbox),the “N.I. CHAMPIONSHIP MASTERS AWARD”.

The prize is a wonderful opportunity for ONE LUCKY DRIVER to race at the prestigious MSA KARTMASTERS BRITISH KART GRAND PRIX (4 day meeting) at PF International Circuit in August 2014.

This is the first time NIKA have been able to offer a prize of this magnitude for it’s championship, which has a value of over £3000 & we hope that it will become a regular award in the years to come. As we develop the prize package, over the next few weeks we hope to be a position to add to our list of partners, Gillard Engineering, Ogden Motorsport & Dunlop (Anderson CSK). We will also be finalising our Terms & Conditions for the award, all of which will be published in full when completed.

Good luck to everyone involved

Charlie Eastwood - Florida Winter Tour 2013
Charlie Eastwood wins Florida Winter TourThere has been no rest for Charlie Eastwood since winning the Rotax Max World Finals in December. January, February & March have seen trips to the America to take part in the Florida Winter Tour, as part of his prize for winning the World Finals. The trips have been fruitful, with wins in the opening round setting the foundations for a championship challenge. While outright victories eluded Charlie, consistent results over the remaining were enough to seal the championship & with it an all-important ticket to the World Finals to defend his title. With his place on the grid in New Orleans guaranteed, Charlie can now focus on the Super 1 Championship, with the aim of going one better than in 2012 & winning the National Championship.

2013 Race Dates
The NIKA Committee are pleased to confirm the 2013 Race Calendar. The clubs has made a number of changes to the schedule, in order to spread the dates more evenly across the year, with most months only having two events. With the exception of June & September there will only be one round per month on the NI Championships, while only June has two NI Superkart races. We hope this will have a positive effect for competitors & were ever possible they will support all the clubs.

One small addition has been made to the race dates previously issued, the UKC have confirmed that their opening of the Ulster Championship will now also be the Ulster Cup event, for all classes, including the superkarts.

At this time every effort will be made to follow this schedule however please note that changes may be made during the course of 2013.

Charlie Eastwood - 2012 Rotax Max World Champion
The NIKA committee would like to congratulate Charlie Eastwood on superb victory in the Rotax Max Grand Finals in Portugal. Runner up in the Super 1 Championship, resulted in him becoming the first Northern Ireland driver to qualify through series. This combined with some strong results in Europe & Charlie was always going to be in contention for a good result in this prestigious result. Timed qualifying brought a 12th place finish but with everyone on equal equipment only fractions of a second separated the leading runners. A second, a third & a fourth in the heats gave him a 3rd place start for the Pre-final. This was converted into second & a front row start for the main final. After a tight opening half of the race Charlie was never out of the top 4 before hitting the front on lap 15. From there he never looked backed, crossing the line over a second ahead of the opposition to become the 2012 Rotax Max World Champion.

Charlie now joins an elite list of Northern Ireland drivers, that including Trevor Roberts (1995 world Superkart D1 champion), Andrew Agnew (2003 European Superkart D2 champion) & Adam Stirling (2010 CIK Under 18 World championship - 3rd) to take honours at the highest level of karting.

Charlie was not the only Northern Ireland driver at the event, Gary Donnelly, the 2012 NI Mini Max champions. Some strong drives in heats but his efforts were not enough for to qualify directly for the junior pre final, having to settle for the last chance race to book his place in the finals. It was not to be however, taking 11th place & outside the qualifying places.

2011 Northern Ireland champion Shane Daly was also representing Ireland but he too was too run out of luck, after some good performances in the heats & Pre Final. Shane was running inside the top 20 in the final but hit mechanically troubles with just a couple of laps remaining & failed to reach the flag. Both drivers having to settle for an enjoyable experience & being part of a great weekend for Northern Ireland karting

Well done Charlie
